For us, Made in Italy is a starting point, not a formula. We draw on the expertise of local makers and specialists, then build on that knowledge through new techniques, unexpected materials and a less conventional approach to design. Italian craft, reinterpreted the Born Outside way.
From idea to object
Every design starts as an idea, but it takes experience to make it work. We develop each shoe side by side with our makers, translating proportions, constructions and unexpected details into something that can actually be made, and worn.
Design doesn't happen in isolation. We develop each shoe alongside the people who make it, bringing our ideas together with their technical knowledge and experience. It's an ongoing exchange: testing, adjusting and refining until an idea becomes something real.
MATERIALS ARE PART OF THE DESIGN
Leather, suede, nylon, colour and texture aren't chosen at the end. They're part of how we design. We test combinations, contrasts and finishes until the materials change the character of the shoe — sometimes in ways we didn't expect.
CRAFT, WITH A POINT OF VIEW.
We value what has been passed down, but tradition is not something to preserve unchanged. It is a foundation to build from: a vocabulary to reinterpret, challenge and push forward.
What matters is not simply where it comes from, but where it can take us next.
Italy gives us the knowledge, techniques, manufacturing expertise and materials — a vocabulary we reinterpret by mixing textures, creating contrast and dynamic movement, and embracing a sense of perfect asymmetry.
